Planning Director Jeffrey Ayers told the committee he was asked to speak with Yates County Concerned Citizens about housing challenges and outlined causes including conversions to short-term rentals and corporate purchases that reduce single‑family housing availability. Ayers said the county needs "lots of little solutions" and that "there's not one big evil thing to take care of and there's not going to be one big solution either."
On development, County Administrator Jessica Mullins said MRB submitted the Town of Starkey's application for Lakemont Landing for the second distribution of the NYS ESD Infrastructure Grant; state approvals for that application are expected in summer. Ayers noted financing infrastructure for the Lakemont Landing project remains an open question and that the county has limited direct levers to solve housing availability on its own.
