County schedules FY27 budget public hearing for April 28; adoption vote planned May 5

Dinwiddie County’s administrator told the board the advertised FY27 budget is balanced and that the public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom. He reminded supervisors they cannot vote to adopt the budget on the same night as the public hearing and said a special meeting is scheduled for May 5 to take action on adoption.
The administrator said recent revenue projections improved modestly and that staff is considering restoring funding in two areas: an allocation for the Sheriff’s Office/dispatch (around $150,000) and an increase for the school system that would raise a proposed $500,000 to $650,000 (the schools had requested $800,000). He said the advertised budget still reflects more than $1 million in internal reductions, and that numbers could change before final adoption.
The administrator also reiterated that the county declared a temporary, countywide burn ban effective April 15 because of extreme dry conditions and noted that mutual aid was used recently for a subdivision fire. The public hearing date and the May 5 adoption slot were confirmed.
