VDOT update: Ferndale roundabout start delayed; county six‑year plan outlined

He described lane-shift plans for a one‑lane bridge and noted the department will provide diagrams and a schedule to help residents anticipate phased closures.
On pavement work and mowing, French said crews are holding off some mowing until May because of frost and dry conditions, and that pavement markings will be refreshed on several routes. He walked the board through projects in the county’s six‑year plan, citing Quaker Road realignment (survey completed), a 709 Shipping Road rural‑rustic project planned for 2028 with about $142,000 carried forward into the plan, and later-priority projects (Expand Drive/Goose Pond/Marlboro) scheduled into the early 2030s.
Board members asked operational and historical questions about why certain roads remain single‑lane and about sequencing; French said VDOT will follow up with more detailed answers and diagrams and can participate in a community meeting when construction approaches. He emphasized that the funding tables presented are projected allocations and are subject to change across the plan years.
