Geneva County engineer outlines bridge, paving and grant plans; patch truck purchase authorized

County Engineer Justin Barfield told the Geneva County Commission on May 26 that the FEMA bridge contractor will begin approaches on White Oak Road when weather permits and that materials for the Round About Road bridge are already on site, though that project may require weekend work to complete. He said striping on County Road 91 is complete and work on County Road 64 will finish the FY2025 paving project.
Barfield said advertisement for the FY2026 Rebuild Alabama paving (County Roads 16, 40 and 107) will begin June 24, 2026, with bids opening July 15 and awards expected at the July 27 commission meeting. He reported submitting a federal Safe Streets grant for safety improvements and pursuing an ATAP safety grant, and said he will meet with ALDOT about the ATAP opportunity. Barfield presented Sourcewell quotes and confirmed the patch truck is on the State Bid list; commissioners authorized the purchase by motion (vote recorded 3-0).
