County asks cities to join effort in response to Tuscaloosa lawsuit over sellers use tax

County Administrator Cindy Williams told the Commission that the Alabama Association of County Commissioners (ACCA) has asked counties to contact their municipalities and request letters of intent or adopted resolutions to join counties opposing the lawsuit filed by the City of Tuscaloosa regarding the Simplified Sellers Use Tax. Williams said, "the ACCA has requested that contact be made with all municipalities asking that they send a letter of intent and or adopt a resolution to join with the counties in trying to block the lawsuit filed by the City of Tuscaloosa regarding the Simplified Sellers Use Tax." The Commission noted that Coffee Springs, Hartford and Samson have submitted letters of intent and the City of Geneva has already adopted the resolution; Slocomb was scheduled to consider it the same evening.
Williams also provided FY2025 closeout financial information and the chairman asked for an updated debt schedule at the next meeting. The sellers‑use‑tax coordination is an ongoing intergovernmental matter; commissioners did not take additional formal action at this meeting beyond the request to contact municipalities.
