Council asks staff to refine proposed noise-hour limits for yard equipment

City Manager James Riker reported that the Council had directed staff to investigate modifying Article III of the Municipal Code (Noise) to address domestic power tools, lawn mowers and agricultural equipment.
Riker described a draft that would change allowable hours to 7 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sundays and holidays, and that would include an 85-decibel limit. Council discussed balancing contractor scheduling and residents’ expectations for quiet weekends; staff and the City Attorney were directed to make changes as discussed and to place the item on the next Council consent agenda for authorization.
