The Dinwiddie County Board on May 5 adopted the FY2027 county budget after a brief presentation by County Administrator Kevin Massengill, who described the proposal as "a very progressive budget" with "significant investments" in education, public safety and a class and compensation plan. "We're making significant investments, continuing our commitment to education, public safety in a in a big way, as well as the workforce to be able to keep moving forward with our class and compensation plan," Massengill said.
Board members moved and seconded approval and a roll call was taken. During the roll call, Supervisor Daniel D. Lee said he would "abstain from voting on the portion of the budget that concerns the Appomattox River Soil and Water Conservation Board," though the roll call recorded all voting aye. The budget adoption follows a public hearing held April 28 at which no one spoke; staff noted state law prevents adopting a budget the same night as the hearing, but allows adoption at this meeting.
