Board approves waterline access for rodeo club, insurance and budget amendments, and authorizes transportation RFP

The board approved several action items that adjust budgets and authorize services. Trustees granted the Sturgis Brown High School Rodeo Club permission to connect to the district waterline (construction paid by the club; district to pay ongoing water charges) with city and VA approvals forthcoming.
Business manager Brett Burdett described budget amendments: an amendment to the general fund to recognize Title I 1003 school improvement grants for Whitewood and Sturgis Elementary, and a $145,000 general-fund amendment to cover increased property and liability insurance premiums, software (ScribeGo), supplies and committee stipends. The board also approved a small capital-outlay amendment (~$11,000) to fund licenses for the Homeschool Connection program.
The board authorized administration to prepare an RFP for transportation services for FY27, noting the district runs 21 routes presently and that assuming rural routes or changing vendors would carry capital and contract-length implications. Trustees also approved a one-year pest-control contract and granted a policy-based liability-waiver to the Hopeful Hooves 4-H club to use Atoll Elementary for meetings.
