Parents have the right to ask if their child's teacher is certified, CCISD presenter says

A presenter for CLEAR CREEK ISD told families that under Title II-related guidance they have specific rights to ask about the qualifications of educators in their child’s classroom. “Puede preguntar si el maestro está certificado para el grado y materia específico que enseña,” the presenter said, adding that schools must provide information promptly if a child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet state certification requirements for that assignment.
The presenter emphasized that asking about teacher qualifications is welcomed and should not single out a child. Families were reminded that translation or language support can be provided for meetings and that participation options range from short surveys to advisory committees and PTA involvement.
