County awarded $160,000 BOA grant to inventory brownfield and underused properties

Planner Nathaniel Rogers told the committee Cayuga County was awarded $160,000 for a Countywide Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Pre‑Planning Inventory & Analysis project. The 24‑month, 90/10 grant will map underutilized and vacant commercial and industrial buildings (excluding the City of Auburn), identify clusters for future BOA planning, and integrate findings with other planning efforts.
Rogers said the county executed a consultant contract with Fisher Associates, held a required project scoping session and convened the first task force meeting Oct. 14. Fisher Associates has begun brownfield data collection and analysis under the grant agreement, and staff will track consultant progress and state project manager interactions during the two‑year scope.
