County awarded $160,000 Brownfield Opportunity Area grant; Fisher Associates contracted

Planning staff reported that Cayuga County was awarded $160,000 for a Countywide Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Pre-Planning Inventory & Analysis. The 24-month project, which began April 1, will map underutilized commercial and industrial properties (excluding the City of Auburn) and identify clusters recommended for future BOA planning and designation.
Per the resolution passed by the Legislature, the county has executed a contract with Fisher Associates as the project consultant. Staff and the NYS Department of State held a required project scoping session on Sept. 16, and the first Task Force meeting is scheduled for Oct. 14. The grant is structured as a 90/10 award with the state providing 90% of the funding and the county contributing staff time and related costs.
