Cayuga County begins 36‑month countywide strategic planning process with $103,500 state grant

Cayuga County has launched a 36‑month Countywide Strategic Plan funded in part by a $103,500 state grant, Planning Director Kari Terwilliger told the Planning Committee. The effort is a 90/10 grant with the state covering 90% of eligible expenses and the county budgeting the remaining 10% from Planning Department funds across 2025–2027.
Terwilliger said a 16‑member steering committee has been formed and staff held three public kick‑off information meetings in July across the county. Two short community surveys were launched as part of a broader outreach plan; the second survey closed Nov. 10. Staff are drafting a community profile as the first deliverable. The project will provide updated guidance for housing, economic development, tourism, natural resource protection and public services.
