Sheriff Michael Howell submitted agenda items requesting (1) removal of a Hummer from sheriff's office inventory to donate to Marble Valley Fire Department, (2) authority to sign up for a CTSP grant, and (3) authorization to apply for an Edward Byrne grant in the amount of $50,000 with no local match. Commissioner John Forbus moved to approve each request and Vice-Chair Brandon Davis seconded; each motion passed unanimously on Oct. 14, 2025.
Separately, the commission approved removing service pistol BYLU019 (9mm) from sheriff’s inventory and allowing it to be presented to Butch Buttram at his retirement on Oct. 31, 2025. The meeting packet also includes a sheriff’s memo listing nine deputies eligible for supplemental hazardous duty pay per Local Act No. 97-537 for 2025-2026.
