Chair Lamar Daugherty called the Coosa County Commission to order on Oct. 14, 2025, with Vice-Chair Brandon Davis, Commissioner John Forbus and Commissioner Bertha K. McElrath present and Commissioner Ronnie Joiner absent. The commission approved the meeting agenda and minutes by unanimous votes.
The commission approved the consent agenda authorizing Chair Lamar Daugherty and Administrator Amy Gilliland to sign checks for monthly expenses and payroll and to approve changes in employee job descriptions, salaries, hours and status including budget-approved raises. The minutes record a hiring memo from Sheriff Michael Howell indicating Deputy Shane Payton was hired Sept. 15, 2025 at $18.59 per hour and will not be required to serve a probationary period.
A motion by Vice-Chair Brandon Davis to accept Administrator Amy Gilliland’s resignation failed for lack of a second. Commissioner John Forbus then moved to table the resignation until Oct. 17 at 11:30 a.m.; Vice-Chair Davis seconded and the motion was unanimously approved. The commission recessed to hold administrator interviews on Oct. 17.
The meeting record shows votes on each procedural motion as unanimous among the four commissioners present; Commissioner Ronnie Joiner was recorded as not present.
