The Lammersville Joint Unified School District board adopted resolution 24-25-23 on June 18 to expand professional experience qualifications for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) teachers for the 2025–26 school year.
Staff said the change is intended to increase the district’s ability to staff TK classes amid statewide shortages. A staff speaker explained credential considerations: "So the TK credential actually has, teachers have to have both the multiple subject and they have to have the 24 ECE units," and said the district recently hired teachers from preschool settings who were on emergency credentials. Trustees discussed whether early-childhood experience in Montessori preschools or similar settings should be treated as qualifying experience in the future; staff said they would research regulations and bring recommended language back if needed.
Trustee Benita Daniel moved to approve the resolution, Trustee Samik Modi seconded, and the roll-call vote was 5–0 in favor. Board members said the expansion is a pragmatic response to staffing challenges and asked staff to return with any suggested refinements.
