Superintendent Scott told the Colman‑Egan School District 50‑5 board that summer school will run in two short sessions: June 22–24 and June 29–July 3, and that enrollment to date is under 20 students compared with the usual 25–30.
"We will have summer school, June 22 through the 24th and June 29 through July 3," Scott said. He explained the district offsets sessions to allow teachers to attend an explicit instruction conference and that REAP funds (state or federal) generally cover summer‑school costs rather than the general fund. Scott also said staff are monitoring class sizes and may split larger classes part time for math and language arts.
The board discussed whether short sessions allow measurable gains; Scott said formal metrics are unlikely for the compact schedule but noted small student‑teacher ratios (three to four students per teacher) provide concentrated instruction.
