The City Council approved an invitation from Puerto Vallarta to establish a sister-city relationship and scheduled a delegation visit after staff described the request as timely.
Mayor Camacho explained the invitation came from Puerto Vallarta and noted prior sister-city relationships (La Jumulco, Chapala, San Luis Potos—). Sister-city commissioner Bob Perez (introduced earlier by the mayor) and other commissioners described the value of such partnerships for student exchanges and cultural programs. "It's about student exchange. It's about creating programs for both cities... it's about friendship and it's about being together," Commissioner Perez said.
Councilmember Rolotta recommended forming a brief ad hoc to strengthen sister-city processes, including potential modest budget support and programming (language exchange, school-district coordination and travel stipends for commissioners). Council approved the item, 5-0, and staff said they will work with the sister-cities commission to plan the delegation and any ceremonial materials for the visit.
