Cayuga County awarded $160,000 BOA pre‑planning grant to inventory brownfields; consultant engaged

Planner Nathaniel Rogers updated the committee on a $160,000 Countywide Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Pre‑Planning Inventory & Analysis awarded to Cayuga County (resolution 266‑24). The 24‑month project began April 1 and will map underused, vacant and abandoned commercial and industrial buildings (excluding the City of Auburn) to identify clusters recommended for future BOA planning and State designation.
Per resolution #284‑25, the county has executed a contract with Fisher Associates as consultant for the project. Rogers said Fisher Associates has begun collecting and analyzing brownfield data; the first Task Force meeting was Oct. 14 and a second Task Force meeting is scheduled for December 10. The project is funded 90% by the state with the remaining 10% covered by staff time and non‑consulting expenses from the Planning Department budgets for 2025‑2026.
The county expects the BOA inventory to inform future targeted planning and potential state BOA nominations for smaller clusters identified through the analysis.
