Staff reported special education will have three full‑time teachers and reduce to five paraeducators next year for the services budgeted. The presenter said the district expects seven out‑of‑district placements and that one high‑cost student being discharged from a day program in Sioux Falls will lower the extraordinary cost fund request from $468,000 to about $216,000.
Board members noted the extraordinary cost fund is largely driven by student needs that are difficult to control and praised the district’s ability to provide mandated services. Staff said they will continue to monitor placements and bring any request for extraordinary cost reimbursement to the board as required.
