Public works reports gas‑line upgrade, meter replacements and equipment work

Public Works provided an operational report covering recent maintenance and upcoming infrastructure projects. Thomas reported crews completed grading and tree removal, are addressing drainage and ditches after recent rains, and will begin replacing aging water and gas meters (many units date back 30–40 years). Staff said they will install new ultrasonic water meters that reduce testing frequency to 20 years and will attempt courtesy notice knocks before work on private meter pits.
Thomas described a planned upgrade to the gas distribution line along Keychad Road: the city is moving from a 2" steel line placed around 1957 to a 6" line for future capacity. The upgrade will require a bore under railroad tracks and coordination with rail owners, with staff awaiting final approvals. "We're upgrading from a 2 inch old steel line... to a 6 inch line to help for volume purposes," Thomas said. Staff also said they are recruiting two more public works employees and will demonstrate a street sweeper for potential purchase.
