Nebraska State Fair presenter details event plans, ARPA-funded campus projects

Jamie (S5), a Nebraska State Fair presenter, briefed the Hall County Board on preparations for the 2026 Nebraska State Fair at Fonner Park, including logistics, volunteer needs and on-campus infrastructure projects funded in part through ARPA. "Nebraska State Fair this year, our theme is 'It all happens here' and we'll be hosting all attendees August 28 through September 7," Jamie said, noting the fair runs 11 days and ends on Labor Day.
Jamie described a phased infrastructure program: purple-marked projects already complete, green areas scheduled to finish before the state fair in August and a final red phase to wrap up in November 2026. Jamie said the fair maintains about 16 full-time staff year-round, expands to more than 500 seasonal employees during events, and relies on roughly 800 volunteers providing about 16,000 hours. Jamie also promoted visitor tools including a mobile app and a visitor's guide and highlighted concerts, fireworks and an 18-68 Foundation sculpture installation planned for the JBS Show Barn entrance.
"We have 6 nights of our fireworks and drone show," Jamie said, adding the fair will include a Great American Hero celebration for veterans on Labor Day and national and outdoor concerts at multiple venues. Jamie invited commissioners and the public to attend and use volunteer and planning tools available on the fair website.
