City Engineer Tom Nachmus and Engineering Technician Evan Olson gave a plain-language overview of the City of Fargo’s engineering department, its divisions and how staff balance fieldwork with long-term planning. Nachmus described four primary divisions—traffic engineering, engineering services, design and construction, and planning/stormwater—and said the department oversees everything from signal timing to storm sewer ponds.
“Really we have 4 primary divisions,” Nachmus said while explaining team responsibilities. He added that engineering provides design oversight and works closely with public works to ensure long-term maintenance is feasible. The pair urged residents to check streets.com and the City of Fargo website for project timelines and contact information for specific project questions.
