Andrew Whitaker was sworn in as the Village of Fairport’s police chief during the board work session on July 27, 2026, after trustees moved and unanimously approved his appointment effective July 7, 2026. The board invited Whitaker and his family forward for the oath and a family photo.
Administering the oath, an official read the pledge that included support for “the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of New York.” Whitaker repeated the oath and then thanked his wife, family, and colleagues, saying: “I just wanna say, thank you to everyone for coming tonight … I also wanna thank my law enforcement officers and friends and other chiefs for their support throughout my career.” The board asked Whitaker to return to a future meeting to update trustees on department activities.
The motion to appoint Whitaker was made, seconded, and approved unanimously by voice vote. Board members and staff praised the process and recognized Sergeant Weber for covering department duties during the transition.
