County Appraiser Danny Mesalles reported that 42 building permits were issued between January and April 2026 for a mix of new dwellings, shops, garages, renovations, 'shouses', decks, foundation repairs and barns. He said field staff will conduct maintenance in Clay Center City and five named townships and that personal property values were mailed the previous Thursday.
Sheriff Alan Benninga provided photographs and described completed plumbing work at the Law Enforcement Center: installation of shutoff valves for each block and cell, a new water main, one remaining cell (referred to as "the tank") still to be completed, and a new basement drain and sump pump equipped with an alarm. The Sheriff said the project addressed needs that had existed for a long time.
