Clay County schedules Utah Road closure for pipe replacement; highway hires three new workers

Bobby Shomper, Clay County Highway Administrator, reported operations and short-term closures during the May 4 meeting. He said Utah Road between 20th Road and 21st Road will be closed for approximately two days to replace three pipes before asphalt is laid and that the department recently hired three individuals to fill vacant positions.
Mr. Shomper listed recent maintenance work including hauling rock, guardrail replacement on Jayhawk Road between 5th and 6th Roads, and pipe cleanout on 6th Road between Prairie Road and Quail Road. He said edging work will begin Tuesday on Broughton Road, Redwood Road, Sunflower Road, and Frontier Road and warned drivers of traffic delays at those locations. He added the Event Center parking-lot water-holding issue has been referred to the Fair Board and Shilling Construction for resolution.
