Board approves $60.95 million contract for Pambo Elementary; groundbreaking scheduling remains pending DSA approvals

The Lammersville Joint Unified School District governing board on June 4 approved a facilities lease agreement amendment and general construction contract with Roblin Contracting Inc. for Pambo Elementary, a project staff said will accommodate about 900 students and has an estimated construction price of nearly $61,000,000.

“As schools don’t cost what they used to, so nearly $61,000,000 and we will have a 900 student school, in Pambo Elementary School in Neighborhood J, just over a year from now,” a district staff member said in presenting the item. The board approved the contract pending approval by the Division of State Architects (DSA). Staff explained DSA review will come in increments; the first increment will allow underground infrastructure work and the second will follow later for full construction.

The board also asked staff and the contractor to coordinate a date for a groundbreaking ceremony. Staff offered several potential dates and trustees discussed availability for June 18, June 23 and July 16; the district will confirm a date with Roblin and staff. Roblin representative Adam Villacara was acknowledged during the presentation for his company’s prior work in the district.

The motion to approve the contract was made by Trustee David Pambo and seconded by Trustee Stephanie Olsen; the record shows the motion carried on a voice vote with four ayes and one absence. Next steps for the project are receipt of the remaining DSA approvals and scheduling of the public groundbreaking.
