Students showcase leadership, HOSA fundraising and TED Ed work at Lammersville board meeting

Students from across the Lammersville Joint Unified School District presented school leadership projects and extracurricular achievements during the board meeting on April 16.
Shasta, representing Costa Elementary’s Associated Student Body, described this year’s student leadership activities — a homecoming float built around a Dr. Seuss theme, a trunk-or-treat carnival, Red Ribbon Week activities and a Kindness Week rally — and said ASB uses the RISE motto (Respect, Innovation, Safety and Empathy) in classroom lessons. “ASB has given me the courage to show my leadership skills and cooperate with others to do what’s best for the school,” Shasta said.
HOSA chapter president Anrita Naranjan and members highlighted their first year as a chapter, attendance at the fall leadership conference, qualification of several members for state competition, and fundraising and outreach work. “Together we raised $1,170 for NMDP,” a student said, referring to the National Marrow Donor Program; the chapter said funds support donor research and outreach and that many members will attend the State Leadership Conference and an international conference in Nashville in June.
Assistant Superintendent Tennant Sharp introduced student speakers from multiple elementary schools who described the student-led TED Ed event and thanked high school coaches and media students who supported sound, lighting and production. Board members praised the presentations and thanked students and staff for the work involved.
No board action was required for the presentations. The students were invited to remain for the remainder of the meeting or to leave to prepare for school work and competitions.
