Cortes Elementary students lead pledge, outline goal to reach 88% state proficiency

Two students from Cortes Elementary led the meeting's opening pledge and highlighted their school's academic goals. "My name is Trisha Chatterjee. I'm the president at Cortes Elementary," Trisha told the governing board, introducing the school's pledge and themes. Her classmate Sanvi Chaudhary, identifying herself as the vice president, described the school's work to support students.
"We have an incredibly high goal of reaching 88," Sanvi said, adding, "88% is the percentage we believe our school can earn in state testing." The students described the school's intervention block, called OTP, which places K–5 students in small‑group support during the first 30 minutes of the day and provides targeted interventions for grades 6–8 during morning enrichment.
The students also listed recent extracurricular achievements — a heart‑fund fun run, PTA movie nights, a family dance and a 5th grade DARE graduation — and successes in county competitions. The board president thanked the students and invited them to stay for the meeting. The presentation was introduced by Principal McDonald and took place at the start of the March 19 meeting.
