Board authorizes committees, moves ahead with highway hiring and truck planning

The Select Board authorized a set of select-board committees including a finance office transition team, an IT committee, policy and commons committees, and ethics and other working groups. Board members emphasized urgency for the finance transition team because of the treasurer vacancy and several members volunteered to participate. One board member with IT experience urged an IT committee to address cybersecurity and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
"It's very important to me, in regards to where the world is at now in social engineering and AI and security," a board member said in support of an IT committee. The board also heard that state emergency-agency funds for cybersecurity are available for towns and could be pursued. On highway matters, Jeremy (highway department) and the highway committee described plans to prepare bid specs and pursue lease-to-own financing for two trucks in FY27; the board consented to continue planning. The road-crew job description that had been used to advertise a vacancy was approved so hiring can proceed without delay.
