Ruston police and fire chiefs report on event traffic, FireCom transition and recruits

At the Feb. 17 council meeting, Ruston Police Chief Bautista said Parks Tacoma has included the Ruston Police Department in more event planning and that Parks Tacoma retained a firm to study traffic impacts from summer events; he said the automated traffic camera discussion would occur later in the meeting.
Fire Chief Bruce Allen told the council the department responded to 16 incidents in January (including 11 medical aid calls), successfully completed transition to South Sound 911 Fire Communications (FireCom) with no reported issues, and has two personnel midway through Firefighter I training at Buckley Fire Academy. He said Regional Fire Authority planning has resumed but is likely years away from full implementation—possibly five to seven years based on neighboring department input.
