Council adopts Ordinance No.1597 updating critical-areas code to align with state law

The Ruston City Council voted 5-0 to adopt Ordinance No.1597, which updates Title 30 of the Ruston Municipal Code (Critical Areas) to align with the Washington State Growth Management Act and the city’s updated Comprehensive Plan. The ordinance updates wetlands, critical aquifer recharge, fish and wildlife conservation areas, definitions and related provisions after review by the Planning Commission and applicable state reviews.
Councilmember Wilson pointed out a clerical reference to "Title 20.30" that should read "Title 30.30;" she and the mayor said that clerical corrections could be made by the clerk and would not block final adoption. Councilmember Hedrick made the motion to adopt, which Councilmember Syler seconded; the motion passed 5-0.
Next steps: The ordinance takes effect as provided in the motion and clerical corrections will be made administratively. Staff noted no fiscal impact was identified.
