Commission orders rebid for mowing tractor, discusses transfer-station repair options
Summary
After receiving only one bid for a replacement mowing tractor, commissioners voted 3-0 to rebid; the Board also reviewed repair drawings to open the transfer-station building front to reduce damage but asked staff to present additional, lower-cost options.
Public Works reported only a single bid from Schmidt & Sons to replace a tractor damaged in an accident; the insurance claim paid roughly $70,000 toward a replacement. The requested new tractor would include a swivel seat to improve rearward visibility. Commissioners expressed concern about receiving only one bid and voted 3-0 (moved by Vice Chairman Alan Groom, seconded by Commissioner Wayne Wilt) to put the mowing tractor back out for bid.
Separately, County Administrator Lucas Goff presented repair drawings for the damaged transfer-station building that would open the front to reduce damage from future impacts. Vice Chairman Groom voiced cost concerns and the Board asked staff to present other, potentially less expensive options before moving forward with construction-level repairs.
The Board did not commit funds for either purchase or repair at the meeting and directed staff to return with additional procurement options and cost estimates.
