Council passed Ordinance 94-26 to authorize amending the professional-services contract related to remediation at the former St. Joseph Hospital site. Kate Golden told council the work began the day of the meeting, starting in the parking garage, with asbestos removal of surface and rubble anticipated to take about 30 working days.
Golden said demolition bid documents have been reviewed and will go out for bid in the next few months; asbestos removal and site cleanup are being handled by consultant Verdantas and subsequent demolition will be managed through a city contract administered by the Engineering Department. Council members expressed relief that debris removal and asbestos abatement were underway.
