District reports gains in iRead and AP participation; iLearn science above state averages

Jason Fisher, speaking for the district's Department of Learning, presented student assessment and advanced placement (AP) data, saying grade 2 iRead pass rates are approximately 79.63%, up from about 74% the previous year, and iLearn science proficiency for grade 4 is 62% (state average roughly 44%) and grade 6 is 61% (state roughly 41%).
"Remember, last year...we had 74 percent of our students who had passed. This year, we're at 79 percent," Fisher said when summarizing iRead results. Fisher also provided AP program metrics: the district recorded 956 qualifying AP scores (3 or above) in 2026 and 777 individual students participated in AP coursework. Fisher estimated these qualifying scores represent approximately 2,868 potential college credits with an estimated savings to families of about $1,100,000 based on an assumed $408 per college credit.
Board members asked clarifying questions about changes in the number of exams administered in particular subjects and about AP course penetration and supports to broaden access. Fisher said growth in AP participation has coincided with strong pass rates in nine of the district's top 10 AP course offerings compared with global averages, and he noted plans to add courses such as AP Psychology and AP Environmental Science at specific schools.
