Engineering Updates: Grant Street Water Work, Elm Swamp Road Design, New Police HQ Progress

Kevin Krolick, the engineering representative, provided a broad update on city infrastructure projects. He said Grant Street Phase 2 work focused on water relocation this week and storm-sewer work paused briefly due to an undiscovered conflict with sanitary laterals. Elm Swamp Road design work is moving forward after a funding appropriation and the city is awaiting a contract with Versus Consulting to advance design phases.
Krolick also said IDEM-required groundwater monitoring wells installed around Stoneater Bike Park showed no changes after several quarterly inspections and IDEM authorized removal of those wells. On the new police headquarters he said closing and demolition are scheduled and that the Garmong team will lead a working session with the police department to finalize the needs assessment.
Krolick noted the US 52 interchange closure remains in place through the end of October for the final push of the project, and that the city is advancing preliminary work on several other street and park projects. The board accepted the engineering report and approved a bid authorization later in the meeting for a separate drainage project.
