County staff outlines demolition approach for Hannah City Work Camp; abatement planned before bids

Melissa said initial plans had been to pursue 'bulk demolition'—a more expensive approach that presumes asbestos in all structures and requires special landfill disposal—but that demolition experts and a site tour suggested many buildings could be abated before demolition, reducing cost. "After speaking with some experts in demolition ... they thought that many of the buildings on-site were safe enough to abate before demolition," Melissa said. Staff are developing an abatement scope; the hope is to issue a demolition bid including abatement in the fall to attract more competitive pricing.
