Road and Bridge Superintendent Joe Gardner presented his weekly update on May 18, telling the Board crews began residential dust control last Friday and previously completed county roads. Gardner said a resident asked about building a home off 94th Road and the county verified that portion of the road is maintained by Rossville Township/Shawnee County.
Gardner reported the water-line replacement project will cover roads 254, 158 and S Roads and noted a complaint from Herman Hodge about a rough stretch on 118 west of N where part of the road is minimum maintenance and another part recently had rock laid that needs time to compact. He said crews are not hauling rock this week because of budget constraints, reporting the rock budget balance at $438,907.19 and the W Road project at -$143,330.40, and was directed to coordinate with Clerk Kristie Richter about which line item to use to cover the deficit. Gardner also outlined ongoing equipment repairs, mowing plans to occupy crews, and requested a contingency plan for fuel given rising costs.
