Elk County accepts road department resignation, hires replacement; grader totaled, bridge estimate given

Public Works Director Don Sanders reported a staffing change and equipment impacts during the Aug. 12 meeting. Commissioners accepted the resignation of Andrew Owens effective Aug. 15, 2024, and approved hiring Ernest Towsley at $16.50 per hour effective Aug. 26, 2024. Sanders said, "KCAMP totaled the road grader that was wrecked and the County will receive $71,900 from insurance." He also reported a Kirkham Michael estimate for the Osage Trail bridge at approximately $422,000.
The commission approved the personnel motions 3-0. Commissioner Russell agreed to inspect a separate citizen complaint about a fence on Road 29 after resident John Cannon said 75 days had elapsed since the issue was reported. No funding vote for the bridge repair was taken at this meeting; the bridge estimate was presented as an informational item.
