During the March 3 meeting, Commissioner Nathan Leiker raised concerns about inconsistencies in the county’s regulations for plat approvals and asked for clearer public guidance on lot size requirements, water-well usage and water sources in future plat reviews.
County Counselor Bill Jeter said he had identified inconsistencies following recent rezonings and recommended preparing written revisions. Jeter told the commission the changes could be handled in-house by himself and Justin Craig and then presented to the commission for approval; he did not believe a full overhaul or an outside consultant was necessary for general regulatory cleanup. However, Jeter said outside expertise would likely be appropriate for technical topics such as solar or wind energy when those issues arise.
Commissioner Leiker also asked whether the county should pause accepting applications while the revisions are made; Jeter advised applications could continue to be accepted while regulatory language is updated concurrently. The minutes do not record a formal motion to pause application intake or to hire outside consultants.
