Ellis County adopts new minimum road design and construction standards

Ellis County Commissioners on March 3 approved Resolution 2026-06, adopting updated minimum road design and construction standards intended to guide construction in platted subdivisions, benefit districts and planned unit developments.
Public Works Director Brendan Mackay presented the revised guide, which outlines minimum requirements for roads and drainage improvements and explains that variations may be permitted with the consent of the Public Works Director and subsequent approval by the commission. The standards also reflect earlier commission direction to allow three surface options—sealed surface, asphalt, or contractor-built roads—and note the Stonewood North Addition expects to submit a Community Improvement District petition meeting these standards at a March 10 or March 17 meeting.
Commissioner Nathan Leiker and County Counselor Bill Jeter also participated in the discussion: Leiker pressed for clearer public information on lot sizes and water-source requirements in future plat reviews, and Jeter said he would draft revised language for the county’s regulations and present it to the commission after in-house review.
The motion to approve Resolution 2026-06 passed by voice vote, 2–0.
