Troup County planning staff recommended an amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance to explicitly prohibit cryptocurrency and high-energy data-mining operations as residential home occupations.
Staff said the proposed restriction is included in the exhibit for home occupations and applies to both parcels smaller and larger than 2 acres. "We add that cryptocurrency restriction," staff said while reviewing the packet. The change also corrected lettering and numbering in the exhibit materials. Commissioners did not express formal opposition to adding the prohibition; the item remained under consideration as part of broader UDO revisions.
The amendment restricts only residential home-occupation activity and does not address larger, industrial data-center uses, which the commission reviewed separately as a draft ordinance.
