Planning commission approves rezoning for 1462 New Franklin Road

The Troup County Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission voted to approve a rezoning request for a 1.1-acre parcel at 1462 New Franklin Road. Planning staff presented the application and confirmed the applicant as Timothy Stamper.

Planning staff said the property is technically commercial and that the applicant seeks to rezone the parcel from suburban medium-density residential to limited commercial. "The applicant has requested the rezoning of a 1.1 acre parcel from suburban medium density residential to limited commercial," staff said during the presentation. Staff reported one phone inquiry (a question, not opposition), found no environmental concerns, and advised conditions including securing building permits, business licenses and a required site plan.

Commissioners asked about current onsite use; staff and a commissioner noted the property is used as a veterinary clinic. After brief questions and no public opposition, a motion to approve was made and seconded and the commission voted in favor. "Motion carries," the chair said after the vote. The approval is a first-reading, vote-eligible rezoning; staff listed the usual post-approval conditions the applicant must meet before development proceeds.
