Residents press Royal City over proposed library fence that could block Moose access

A group of Royal City residents told the City Council on April 15 that a proposed masonry-and-iron fence across the south property line of the new library could cut vehicle access to the Moose building and complicate deliveries and emergency response. Gary Piercy presented a "rough" map of the library property and said the intent "is not to block the Moose," while other speakers said trucks and H2A worker buses rely on that route.

Several commenters questioned whether the library had coordinated with nearby businesses and whether a traffic study had been completed. Rick Pack said the area has been available to drive through "for sixty years," and multiple speakers urged the council to preserve delivery routes and emergency access. Mayor Michael Christensen responded that the project remains in the planning phase and said the City Planner, Alex Kovach, will review options and traffic impacts before any final decision is made. The Friends of the Library were identified in the discussion as the group leasing the property for the library, and Gary Piercy said the Friends intend to gift the completed building to the City and that the parking lot paving is planned for the last two weeks of June 2025.
