St. Helena Jury moves to seek $115,000 CWEF grant to extend potable water lines

The St. Helena Parish Police Jury on June 10 authorized President Ryan Byrd to sign and submit the FY 2023-2024 Community Development Water Enrichment Fund (CWEF) application for $115,000 to extend potable water lines in Water Works District #2. The motion, made by Vice President Quanika H. Muse and seconded by Jule C. Wascom, carried unanimously; the minutes note the Parish cannot expend funds until the contract is fully executed.
Officials also approved payment application #3 in the amount of $62,474.00 to Key Construction Services, LLC for work on the CWEF 2022-23 Water System Improvements. The payment was moved by Jule C. Wascom and seconded by Ryan Byrd and was unanimously carried by the jurors present. During the meeting, Nicholas Muse of the LSU AgCenter presented a PowerPoint with updates, and Samuel Haywood provided staff updates on upcoming improvements and funding needs for Water Works District #2.
The approvals leave the parish positioned to pursue grant funding for water-line extension while ensuring contract execution is complete before expenditures begin. No dollar amounts for future required matching funds were specified in the minutes.
