Terrell County Commissioners on May 11 approved a six-month extension of a grazing and hunting lease to Joe David Yates, moving the lease term to June 1, 2026 through November 30, 2026. County Attorney Kenneth D. Bellah told the court the original agreement had been in place for about ten years and that the county preferred a short extension to allow time for inspection and review rather than a longer, five-year renewal previously requested by Yates.
Commissioner Adam Johnson pressed for an on-site inspection and photographs, noting the property had not been reviewed in the last decade. The motion to approve the six-month extension passed unanimously; the minutes record that all members answered "aye." The court directed staff to proceed with the signed extension and to schedule inspection steps during the extension period.
