.04% sales-tax renewal to be placed on August ballot; truck route enforcement requires resolution

The Jackson County Board directed staff to place a .04% county sales-tax renewal on the August ballot rather than pursue a special election in March. Commissioners said the ballot language should specify that the county will retain all funds under the renewal and that cities should be notified they will no longer receive distributions under the renewed tax.
Separately, commissioners discussed a truck route for Hoffman Brothers on 75 Highway. Todd Luckman said he reviewed statutes and Sheriff Tim Morse said a county resolution would be required for enforcement of the route. Commissioners agreed notification to cities and a properly worded ballot measure were necessary next steps before the election.
No final resolution was adopted during the meeting; the board set direction to prepare ballot language and to communicate changes to municipal partners prior to the August election.
