The Cherry Hill Board of Education approved the district's 2026-27 goals on July 28 after a period of discussion about measurable KPIs and attention to student groups who are at risk.
Public commenters urged the board to include chronic absenteeism in the goals and to report it to the board twice a year. Sarah Jocelyn told trustees that "chronic absenteeism is missing 18 days out of 180 days" and asked that the district's data analyses include absenteeism so the board can track root causes such as suspension or homelessness. Superintendent Dr. Morton said attendance is reported daily and can appear strong overall while some students miss 10% or more of available days; he said chronic absenteeism "is an absolute focus" and that each school will have building-specific goals that will be posted on the district website.
Board members described a collaborative process to refine strategies and KPIs as year two of the district's five-year strategic plan. The vote to approve the goals was carried on a roll-call vote with recorded affirmative votes by Dr. Braddock, Mr. Fane, Dr. Dreisen, Mr. Greenbaum, Miss Manzano and Miss Stern.
