Residents object to 10-acre overcut at Hidden Springs; town says rights and oversight remain

Several residents sharply criticized the extent of clearing at the Hidden Springs site, saying more acreage than permitted was cut and that habitat and timber were removed without accountability. "They got the wood. They destroyed habitat. They're still continuing to get the job and finish it, and we are choosing not to hold anybody accountable," said Kelly Sullivan, a public commenter.
Town staff and the contractor's engineer, Ty and Bond, told the board they are preparing a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and will mark approved limits of work with GPS. Staff said work on the 11 acres covered by the Alteration of Terrain permit would proceed as bid, with weekly site inspections and reports after rain events; the town said it has not paid the contractor and that it reserves rights to pursue corrections where necessary. Several Selectmen and members of the public requested additional documentation (bid amendments, permit text and engineering reports) and suggested the board consider independent review before final payment or closeout.
