The St. Helena Parish Police Jury acknowledged a notice from the Louisiana Secretary of State that Mary Hall will retire from the office of Registrar of Voters effective July 31, 2025. The notification, read into the record at the July 8 meeting, informs the jury that under La. R.S. 18:51(c)(1)(a) the parish has 90 days from the date of vacancy to appoint a successor — on or before Oct. 29, 2025.
President Ryan Byrd noted the statutory deadline and that any appointment made before the July 31 effective date would be considered premature and without effect. No nomination or appointment was made at the July 8 meeting; the item was recorded for future action and scheduling.
