FEMA approves Troup County hazard mitigation plan; county asked to ratify

Zach Steele told commissioners that FEMA has returned an approval letter for Troup County’s updated Hazard Mitigation Plan covering 2024–2029 and asked the board to ratify and adopt the plan. Steele said staff and a multi‑stakeholder committee worked about 18 months on the update and that the plan identifies 76 mitigation strategies, including 67 for natural hazards and nine for technological hazards, plus 11 strategies that were new to this update.
Steele noted the county made a technical edit to include possible additional tornado warning outdoor sirens, which he said made the county eligible to apply for a related grant. He said a paper copy of the approved plan was provided to commissioners and requested formal adoption on the evening agenda.
